Monumental Megastructures

Over the past two weeks I’ve been remotely delivering an architecture summer school, using it to introduce students to spatial practice through a series of different building, drawing and making workshops.

In Phase01, students built a den using the things that they had around them, looking at how everyday objects could be used to explore space and structure. I enjoy looking at the ingenious construction details with pegs, string and coat hangers.

In Phase02, students were asked to make a series of speculative models that explored the different structural details and the form of their dens, translating them into a series of components that could assemble into a larger composition.

In Phase03, students were asked to create a series of different drawings that imagined their models as a set of buildings and structures sitting within a landscape.
It was great to see how their skills and ideas developed in such a short amount of time. Thanks to everyone that attended, it was a blast!
